The 23rd General Assembly (GA23) of the Digital Media Project will be held on 2009/06/26-27 at

Objectives

The principal objectives of the meeting are

• Define requirements of Open Media Marketplace
• Interfaces to payment/cashing systems
• Network of WIMTV services
• Produce input documents to MPEG

The 23^rd DMP General Assembly meeting will be held at:

The meeting will be held from Friday, June 26th, 2009 through Saturday, June 27th, 2009. The meeting will start on Friday June 26th 2009 at 09:00.

The meeting will be held in Engineering Building Rooms 105 (first floor) and 203 (second floor).

Wireless internet access provided in the meeting rooms and in the Electronic Engineering Building.

Electricity: 220V/50Hz, however, UK electricity plugs have 3 square pins. So, do not forget your EC/US to UK adaptor.

Travel information

Nearest stations on the London Underground are Mile End on Hammersmith and City, District and Central lines; and Stepney Green on the Hammersmith and City and District lines. Both stations are in Zone 2 of the London Underground and five minutes walking from Queen Mary University of London.

• From Mile End station, turn left and cross Burdett Road and Mile End Road at the traffic lights, continue along the Mile End Road until you reach the College buildings on the right.
• From Stepney Green, turn left out of the station, cross Globe Road and continue along Mile End Road.

London transport tickets

It is suggested a pay as you go (top-up) travel card called OYSTER as the cheapest way moving around in London as well as avoiding queuing for buying tickets every time you travel. It can be used on London Underground, DLR, buses, etc. It costs £3 but it is refundable. You could buy it at your arrival in UK. Photo is not necessary. There is also available a special visitor’s OYSTER travel card at £2.

London Heathrow

1. Take the Heathrow Express to London Paddington station (Journey time 15-20 mins, runs every 15 mins. Costs £32 return, plus £3 if you buy on the train.)

2. On the London Underground, take the Bakerloo Line Southbound to Oxford Circus.

3. Change to the Central Line. Travel Eastbound to Mile End. Walk to the Campus. Allow about 1 hour total travel time.

Alternative route (cheaper): From Heathrow, take the London Underground: Piccadilly Line Eastbound to Holborn (pronounced "hoe-burn"). Change to the Central Line, and travel Eastbound to Mile End, as above. Allow up to 1 1/2 hour total travel time.

Alternative route: From Heathrow take the Heathrow Express to Paddington as above, and then take the Hammersmith and City Line Eastbound directly to Mile End. To get to the Hammersmith and City Line at Paddington, walk along the platform to the footbridge that is, going away from the main concourse, then follow the signs to platforms. Note that as there is no escalator, it will be necessary to walk up and down about 20 steps to get to the platform.

London Gatwick

1. Take the Gatwick Express to London Victoria station. (Journey time about 30 mins, runs about every 15 mins. Costs £16.9 single, £28.8 return.)

2. On the London Underground, take the District Line Eastbound to Stepney Green station. Walk to the Campus.Allow at least 1 hour total travel time.

London Stansted

1. Take the Stansted Express to London Liverpool Street station. (Journey time about 45 mins, runs about every 30 mins. Costs £19 single, £28.8 return.)

2. On the London Underground, take the Hammersmith and City Line Eastbound to Stepney Green Station. Walk to the Campus. Allow about 1 hour total travel time.

Occasionally the Hammersmith and City Line may have long gaps (10 mins or longer) between trains. If you don't want to wait at Liverpool Street Station, you can go instead to the Central Line and travel to Mile End station.

London City Airport

1. Take the Docklands Light Railway  (DLR) to Canning Town station.

2. On the London Underground, take the Jubilee Line Northbound to West Ham.

3. Change to the District Line or Hammersmith and City Line Wesbound to Mile End Station (both lines run from the same platform). Walk to the Campus.
   Total travel time about 40 mins.

London City Airport is about 5 miles east of the campus, in the London Docklands. You may wish to consider getting a Taxi ("black cab"): the fare to the campus is probably about £18-£27.

Mile end Campus

There is a possibility for accommodation on Mile End Campus in that case please contact the organiser Dr Panos Kudumakis.

Student halls of residence rooms may be available at Queen Mary University of London, Mile End Campus. The rates are:

• £42 for single rooms (breakfast & wired internet included) and
• £57 for twin rooms (breakfast & wired internet included).

Mile End Campus accommodation reception is located in France House which is open 24 hours per day. Check in after 12:00am / check out before 10:00am.

Rooms are grouped in small blocks with the use of communal cooking/dining areas for those that wish to use them – if you wished to be housed with specific colleagues, please provide this information when you make your reservation and we will try to accommodate your request.
